While it is of course true that if you have access to your server's configuration in order to set directives to Apache, the .htaccess is considered not the best way to work, in this case the Joomla htaccess.txt renamed to .htaccess sets all the required directives for SEO urls to actually work. You can always experiment with copy pasting the contents of the htaccess.txt to your server's configuration -- with caution.@webdongle - your first link (I've been through it before on my own server but I'm doing it again now for this one) references an article http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/ho ... ccess.html. In there it recommends not actually using the .htaccess when I have access to the rest of the filesystem (I do).
Is it worth going down that rabbit hole or should I focus on trying to use the .htaccess with Joomla install?
